About Brahaspati Publications

A specialized Indian publishing house focused on musicology, classical texts, and historical works

Brahaspati Publications is a specialized Indian publishing house focused on musicology, classical texts, and historical works, dedicated to preserving and sharing the profound legacy of Indian classical music and history.

Founding and Early Focus

After Acharya Brahaspati's death in 1979, his son Amod Vardhan established the Publication to share his father's unpublished manuscripts. It prioritizes Acharya's 27-year research on Natyashastra's 28th chapter (Swaradhyaya), featuring "Sanjeevani" Bhashya in Sanskrit and "Sadhna" Teeka in Hindi for modern readers.

Key Music Publications

In 1986, the house released three foundational books of Acharya Brahaspati:

  • Natyashastra 28th Chapter
  • Raag Rahasya (Part 1)
  • Brij Ballari Bilas

Subsequent years saw all of Acharya Brahaspati's works published, cementing its reputation in Indian classical music and Natyashastra studies.

Expansion to History

After a hiatus, 2011 brought Maharaja Hari Singh: The Troubled Years by Harbans Singh, foreword by Dr. Karan Singh, and launched by him alongside Shri Soli Sorabjee, sparking nationwide acclaim.

Follow-ups included Hindi titles Jammu Kashmir aur Maharaja Hari Singh and Sufi Satta aur Samaj, released by ex-CJI Shri J.S. Thakur and Dr. Karan Singh.

Recent Works

In 2018, Dr. Karan Singh, Jammu and Kashmir (1949-1967) by Harbans Singh was launched at Nehru Memorial Library by ex-PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, with Shri J.S. Thakur and Dr. Karan Singh presiding.

The publication plans broader titles beyond music, continuing to preserve and share India's rich cultural and historical heritage.
